DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

The unit is responsible for an extensive development work programme. The aim of this work is to understand the Region's visitor markets and tourism product and where interventions need to take place to support the growth of the visitor economy. This work includes the:

North East Coastal Framework

One NorthEast commissioned L&R Consulting Ltd, in association with Regeneris to work on a Coastal Framework for the region. The aim of this work was to develop a vision and high level action plan that guides tourism development along the region's coast.

North East Accommodation Action Plan

One NorthEast commissioned L&R Consulting Ltd, in association with Regeneris to produce an action plan to inform the development of the accommodation sector and support a proactive approach to hotel development.

This work has been further developed to provide more detailed information on areas of the region. Work is underway in Tees Valley and is planned for Sunderland and the coastal areas of Tyne and Wear.

North East Business Tourism Action Plan

One NorthEast commissioned Tourism UK Ltd to produce a report to provide guidance and an evidence base to support activities that will grow and develop the business tourism sector.

North East Visitor Information Network

One NorthEast commissioned TEAM Tourism Consulting to undertake an assessment of visitor information provision in the region and develop an appropriate strategy and action plan for future provision.

Maximizing the Contribution of Heritage to the North East's Visitor Economy

One NorthEast commissioned Tribal Consulting to identify a vision based on a stronger market position for the Region's heritage and a product development plan to support and strengthen the growth in the visitor economy.
