One NorthEast welcomes RDPE announcement
One NorthEast has today welcomed the news that the new Rural Development Programme for England has moved a step closer to its launch.
The £3.9bn national programme - the new mechanism for delivering money allocated to England from the European Fund for Rural Development and the Government until 2013 - has today been approved by the European Commission and European Union, paving the way for it to begin in the New Year.
Frances Rowe, One NorthEast Rural and Environment Manager, said: "We're pleased that the programme has taken this important step forward and we're looking forward to its start next year, once the full legal decision is published by the EC and EU.
"One NorthEast will be managing the socio-economic elements of the new programme, which are targeted at making agriculture and forestry more competitive and sustainable, and developing micro-enterprise, bio-energy, rural tourism and sustainable communities - with around £6.6m of investment in the region every year.
"We're in the final stages of developing the delivery arrangements for those parts of the programme, and hope to publish these in the New Year.
"For now, anyone with investment queries or ideas can continue to contact our European Rural Development Team, who are happy to offer informal discussion and links to other sources of funding and advice in the region."
