The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published a guide to employing workers from outside the UK. Communcating with overseas staff - when language can sometimes be a barrier - and inducting staff into British levels of Health and Safety can be additionally challenging. For some staff there will be conflicting practices with their homeland regulations.
The in depth publication provides guidance for employers, employment agencies and businesses on their health, safety and welfare responsibilities for temporary workers.
The publication is available in English and Russian.
In addition, the British Chambers of Commerce is holding a series of seminars which will provide additional advice on the regulations involved in employing overseas staff. There is one scheduled at the Beamish Hall Country House Hotel in Durham on Tuesday May 13th.
