Tourism staff exploring the Northumberland CoastNew Area and Location Training for Northumberland Businesses

A new set of courses is being offered to Northumberland tourism businesses to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the outstanding coast and countryside in the county.

The courses, provided by the Northumberland National Park and the Northumberland Coast AONB, are inspired by the recognition that knowledgable businesses really enhance visitors' discovery, experience and enjoyment of the region.

The day-long events will take place between January and April next year, at a cost of £10 each which includes:

  • Refreshments on arrival, lunch and afternoon tea at each event
  • A workshop and field visit led by an expert in the field at village venues throughout Northumberland  National Park and Northumberland Coast AONB
  • Supporting printed material and occasional publications. Offer of publications at wholesale price for resale
  • The opportunity to network with others in the tourism industry and access to Northumberland National Park and Northumberland Coast Staff and services
  • A website to keep you in touch and an opportunity to have your say and help develop the programme.

Why is area and location training important?

Increasingly, area training and product training (training on the businesses, facilities and services in any give area) is becoming an essential part of the mix for highly successful destinations.  Mandy France, product development officer for One NorthEast Tourism says, "Visitors to the region want memorable experiences - preferably ones that are local, authentic, special and distinctive, that will bring their visit to life.  When a business is knowledgable and enthusiastic about their area, they really communicate this to the customer.  Visitors love personal recommendations for things to do and see and little bits of history, folklore and anecdotes.  It all really helps to get visitors exploring, discovering and enjoying what we've got to offer in the region.  They realise how much there is to do and they are then much more likely to come back and recommend the area to family and friends or even to rave about it on blogs and review sites like www.tripadvisor.com."
