A new real-time, last minute booking service has been launched on Twitter, and Seaham Hall and Serenity Spa are one of the very first hotels around the globe to join the system.
The service, launched by Onoqo, allows hoteliers to load only last minute, discounted deals, with a maximum lead time of 48 hours, which are then distributed and booked via Twitter and Onoqo's own site.
Twitter streams are set up for each city or destination, and travellers needing last minute accommodation or looking for exceptional last minute deals can follow the streams they are interested in, in the normal Twitter way. As hoteliers load the deals, they appear as tweets on the city streams and at the homepage of those following them. And if hoteliers already have a Twitter presence the tweets can appear there too.
The service is designed to particularly appeal to business travellers and corporate travel arrangers as well as those hunting for a last minute leisure bargain, and is intended to harness the real time, 'what I'm doing now' philosophy of Twitter. The booking is conducted on Onoqo's booking engine.
Hoteliers anywhere can sign up, even if no city or destination stream currently exists for their area. At the time of writing, there is no set up cost and commission is charged at 15% of the offer price of the accommodation element of any bookings made - not on any additional services or sundries packaged in.
