Surge of visitors expected for Tall Ships Race

10th December 2009

Categories: Marketing

Hotel occupancy levels across the region for the first day of the Tall Ships Race in Hartlepool on August 7th 2010 are already looking healthy.

The Races are expected to bring one million people to the region and will welcome more than 100 ships to the marina at Hartlepool as the town becomes the finishing point for the race.

This is great news for the North East tourism industry, building on the success of 2009 - One North East's 'How's Business' survey revealed that more than half of those questioned said that business was up over the summer compared to last year.  And, 35 per cent of businesses questioned in the survey claimed that the recession had actually had a positive impact on their business as more people are looking to holiday closer to home.

Alan Clarke, chief executive at One North East: " It is exciting to see so many people already planning their trip to the region for the event, and fantastic to see such confidence among the region's tourism industry".
