Eight hundred years ago Tynedale folk lived in dread of 'Norse' tourists arriving from the far side of the North Sea.
Today however, and working in partnership with the Bergen Tourist Board, three Tyndale businesses have joined forces to lure the Scandinavians back to enjoy the delights of the North East.
De Vere Slaley Hall Hotel, Centurion Tours from Haydon Bridge, and Steve Reed Tourism from Corbridge have linked up to make the make the most of the brand new Eastern Airways route between Newcastle and Bergen.
They recently made a sales mission to Bergen to meet and talk to local tourism and business contacts, including the Bergen chamber of commerce and industry, with the aim of recreating and developing two-way links between the respective countries and their regions.
Steve at Steve Reed Tourism explains: "We are right behind the increasingly powerful campaign to put the North-East back on to the radar of Norwegian shoppers and tourists, but we are also well placed to help bring UK tourists to parts of western Norway".
Well done to these three North East tourism businesses who have got together to work positively and effectively not only for themselves but for the whole of the region as well..
