Help on hand from HMRC for businesses operating beyond midnight on 31.12.09

29th December 2009

Categories: Finance & Funding

HM Revenue and Customs have announced measures to help businesses operating beyond midnight on 31 December 2009 sensibly return the standard rate of VAT.

A helpful brief has been issued by HM Revenue and Customs who have recognised that the date change of  New Years Eve could be especially complicated for hospitality businesses who trade beyond midnight on one of the busiest nights of the year.

These are:

  • special accounting arrangements for businesses operating beyond midnight on 31 December 2009
  • the "light touch" to be operated by HMRC audit staff in dealing with errors arising out of the rate change.
