Digital travel writer Paul Smith, better known as the Twitchhiker, is poised to return home from his international adventures, to be challenged to a week of surprise activities - in his home-patch of North East England.

Next week (10th – 17th Aug) the Twitchhiker could find himself doing outdoor activities such as hot air ballooning over Durham Cathedral or diving off the Farne Islands in Northumberland – depending on the challenges set to him online by people across the world.
Paul has over 11,300 global Twitter followers, who will be able to create these experiences for him using the new ‘Adventure Generator’ interactive online tool at www.visitnortheastengland.com/adventure This ‘fruit-machine’ selects three activities from across the North East at random, creating a diverse and sometimes surprising suggestion. Paul will then ask people who use Twitter to vote which of the activities he should attempt.
