First PlaceWhat Raising Quality Means

What does raising quality actually mean, for a tourism business owner?

Run the best business you can

Raising quality doesn't mean more work - it means looking at what you do and trying to do it better and more effectively - so in the long run it should really mean less work. Raising quality also doesn't mean you have to run a five star or expensive establishment or spend thousands of pounds on making changes.

It does mean you have to spend some time to take a careful look at your whole business and ensure you are:

  • Meeting and exceeding customer expectations
  • Putting quality behind everything you do
  • Running the most efficient and professional business you can (and getting the most profit and satisfaction you can!)
  • Working with other businesses and organisations in your destination

Because raising quality means honestly assessing your whole business and probably making changes right across the board, you can't do it overnight. You'll need to make a commitment to improve how you do business, for the long term. But it's worth doing. Quality businesses perform better, are more sustainable and almost certainly more enjoyable, more manageable and more rewarding to run.

Mostly the steps you need to take just require a commitment to change, common sense and a methodical approach. Our Making a Quality Plan section takes you through the process step- by-step. The broad areas are:

  • Understand your customers
  • Assess yourself
  • Review your staff
  • Review your premises products and services
  • Review your business management
  • Put it all together
