The Learning and Skills CouncilThe Learning and Skills Council is a non-departmental government body (meaning it receives its funding from government but is not directly run by government). It exists to improve the skills and learning of young people and adults in Britain and to make a world-class, competitive workforce.
It helps government develop its strategy, receives and funnels government funding for further education, learning and skills and works with industry to ensure that the needs of UK business are met.
Practically, it manages and delivers funds for learning - through a whole variety of programs, grants and initiatives and helps adults and employers find information, training providers and training programs. It also provides grants and funds to enable students and employers to access appropriate training.
