Businesses in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB) that deal with visitors on a day to day basis are eligible for a heavily subsidised, groundbreaking course. But you need to be quick, ideally registrations should be received by 12th September.

An unforgettable training program

Managed by local people and led by enthusiastic and knowledgeable specialists, 'Know Your North Pennines' is an unforgettable and uniquely helpful training programme. The course, which consists of ten one-day sessions over two years, gives business operators and their staff a fascinating insight into the history, heritage, geology, wildlife, culture, landscape and facilities of the North Pennines.

Build knowledge, enthusiasm and interest in the area

Any business that is on the front line of tourism - accommodation providers, pubs, visitor attractions, tourist information centres or local shops - is eligible. The course aims to build knowledge, enthusiasm and interest that can be communicated to potential visitors to influence their decision making and to actual visitors to enhance their experience when they are here. It also provides a networking opportunity for like-minded businesses to meet and strengthen business connections.

Exciting and dynamic training

Sessions are held during the off-season winter months and are definitely not stodgy classroom-style lessons: previous years have involved field trips, a close-up look at geo-thermal and hydro-electric generation, talks, presentations, food tastings, rag-rug making, poetry readings and even live music sessions!

Fantastic feedback

Not surprisingly then, the course has had fantastic feedback.  Previous attendees said:

“It is by far the most informative and useful course I have ever attended.  Every speaker was a privilege to listen to, the subjects were relevant to my business and the venues demonstrated what was available in the area.”
“It has been excellent to share knowledge with guests, starting with the initial telephone enquiry.  I am sure that my growing enthusiasm has come across and perhaps influenced their decision about where to go for their holiday.”
“This should be essential for any business looking to work with visitors in any capacity in the North Pennines.”

Cost and contacts

The cost of the course - which is generously subsidised by the North Pennines AONB -  is £120, which covers all ten sessions over the two years.  Applicants can pay in two installments, if required.  But hurry - registrations should be received by 12th September.
