North East England is the first region to implement a 'Personal Best', a training programme successfully piloted in London. The scheme will provide funded learning opportunities for up to a thousand learners to acquire skills that will allow them to volunteer at the Olympic and Paralympic Games
Those aged 19 or over, who have been unemployed for at least six months, can take part and will receive training towards an NVQ Level 1 qualification in Event Volunteering. This will cover subjects including equality and diversity, developing team skills, basic fire awareness and conflict resolution – transferable skills which will help equip them for the world of work. They will also gain volunteering experience.
Interested applicants should approach their local Job Centre.
