Formed in April 2006, Northumberland Tourism is a limited company, with a public/private sector board. They work with a wide range of key partners, including One NorthEast Tourism, the Northumberland Strategic Partnership, Business Link, the Learning Skills Council, Northumberland National Park, the Areas of Outstanding National Beauty, the County Council, local authorities and the Tourist Information Centres.
They work with any business which stands to benefit from visitors to Northumberland. They estimate that tourists spend more than £600 million in the county each year, with most going on food and drink, accommodation, transport, recreation and shopping - in that order.
As representatives of the county's tourism industry, their aim is to promote a truly compelling Northumberland 'brand'. They state that their mission is to be the voice of tourism in Northumberland, working in partnership with tourism businesses and public agencies to promote the area and ensure that visitors enjoy the best possible destination experience. They wish to establish Northumberland as England's premier rural tourism destination.
The long term objectives are to:
Northumberland Tourism is part of the 'Tourism Network North East', an initiative that encourages all the region's tourism businesses, the Area Tourism Partnerships and One NorthEast to work together to collectively support the North East's tourism offering.
They have a specialist team which offers support across all areas, including consumer marketing, business-to-business development, public relations and special projects. They also create inspirational marketing materials and campaigns to promote Northumberland. These are backed by dynamic websites that give visitors access to up-to-the minute information on accommodation, attractions and events and encourage the increasing visitor trend to book online.
