One NorthEast Tourism

One NorthEast Tourism sits within the Regional Development Agency (One NorthEast). One NorthEast Tourism is the champion for tourism at the regional level. It works with government, public sector organisations and private firms to help North East England tourism businesses access the best services and support, and to ensure they become more profitable, sustainable and exceed visitors' expectations.

One NorthEast Tourism is constantly looking for ways to put our region in a better position to win visitors. This involves every aspect of developing and managing tourism: research, marketing, training, influencing investment, lobbying government, providing visitor services, putting in place a technology infrastructure and helping tourism businesses grow and prosper.

One NorthEast Tourism is one of five partners of Tourism Network North East. Tourism Network North East is the collective name for One NorthEast Tourism and the four sub-regional Area Tourism Partnerships (ATPs) - County Durham Tourism Partnership, Tourism Tyne & Wear, Northumberland Tourism and visitTeesvalley.

One NorthEast Tourism is organised around five units:

  • Network Development - this unit works with the Area Tourism Partnerships and other key organisations as part of Tourism Network North East, to make sure that the money and effort expended on developing tourism in our region is co-ordinated to get the maximum effect.
  • Tourism Development and Research - this unit undertakes research and development that we use to help manage, influence and encourage investment in tourism. It shares this information to help businesses and partners with their work. It also manages the investment in tourism projects that is made by One NorthEast.
  • Business Development - this unit works to help tourism businesses raise their quality and meet the needs of today's customers. This includes providing advice to new and existing businesses and co-ordinating the delivery of specialist tourism training across the region. It also means working to develop new markets and helping businesses adapt their products and services in order to successfully respond to these new opportunities.
  • Tourism Marketing - this unit works to promote our region to international, domestic and group customers with a range of websites, publications, PR and e-marketing. It also works to attract new companies and investment into the region and runs the highly successful Regional Image Campaign, 'Passionate People Passionate Places'.
  • Visitor Services - This unit works to provide the best and most effective information to visitors both before they come and once they are here. It helps the region's Visitor Information Network, including Tourist Information Centres, deliver the highest service to visitors. The unit is also responsible for delivering and developing Desti.ne, our regional tourism e-business system, to help the tourism network and businesses get the most out of e-business.
