Northumberland Tourism is part of the 'Tourism Network North East', an initiative that encourages all the region's tourism businesses, the area tourism partnerships and One NorthEast to work together, to support the North East's tourism offering. There are four Area Tourism Partnerships covering the region.
As representatives of the county's tourism industry, our aim is to promote a truly compelling Northumberland 'brand'. Our mission is to be the voice of tourism in Northumberland, working in partnership with tourism businesses and public agencies to promote the area and ensure that visitors enjoy the best possible destination experience. Our vision is to establish Northumberland as England's premier rural tourism destination.
Our long term objectives are to:
- attract and create more satisfied customers
- increase visitor spend
- increase visits throughout the year and lengthen the season
- increase employment, investment and productivity
- improve quality standards
- develop a more skilled workforce
- enhance and conserve the county's heritage
Formed in April 2006, Northumberland Tourism is a limited company, with a public/private sector board. We work with a wide range of key partners, including One NorthEast, the NSP, Business Link, Learning Skills Council, Northumberland National Park, the AONBs, the County Council local authorities and Tourist Information Centres.
We work with any business which stands to benefit from visitors to Northumberland. We estimate that tourists spend more than £600 million in the county each year, with most going on food and drink, accommodation, transport, recreation and shopping - in that order.
