Market Town Welcome

The Market Town Welcome Programme in Northumberland will help key towns achieve their full potential as tourist destinations and prioritise investment in improvements to the towns attractions and facilities.

Towns included in the first stage of the project are:

  • Alnwick
  • Amble
  • Berwick-upon-Tweed
  • Haltwhistle
  • Seahouses
  • Wooler

It is expected that the second phase will include Hexham and Morpeth.

Each town has the potential to attract more visitors spending more money throughout the year, supporting more businesses and jobs.

Each town has produced a destination plan which identifies investment opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs, and the public sector. Potential projects have been identified within the plans and catagorised into the following main themes:

  • Physical Regeneration
  • Heritage and Activities
  • Business Support
  • Business Opportunities
  • Marketing and Events
  • Food and Drink

Market Town Welcome has been developed by One NorthEast, Northumberland Strategic Partnership, Northumberland Tourism and County Durham Tourism Partnership (on behalf of Tourism Network North East) with support from Miller Research.

Northumberland Tourism is now working with NSP and the Market Town Partnerships  to try and secure investment to implement the actions identified within the plans.

The plans for each town can be downloaded below:
