The first ever region wide visitor survey was carried out between October 2005 and October 2006 by Tourism UK on behalf of the Regional Tourism Team.

2500 face to face interviews took place in 40 locations around the North East gathering information on visitor profiles, expenditure, satisfaction and their movements around the region. Expenditure figures taken from this survey were used in the production of the regional STEAM reports.

In order to look at the differences between the sub regions 5 reports have been produced, 1 for each sub region and an overall regional report.

The main reports can be found below:

North East

Northumberland

Tyne and Wear

Tees Valley

County Durham

Further analysis has been undertaken focusing on heritage visitors, international visitors and visitors to the coast, countryside and cities.
