Network Management Group (NMG)

Network Management Group

The work of Tourism Network North East is directed and overseen by Network Management Group. This group is made up of the four Chief Executives of the Area Tourism Partnerships and the Heads of Tourism and Marketing at One NorthEast.

In addition to the Regional Framework and Network Operating Plan, NMG is responsible for agreeing a series of plans to guide the detailed activities of the Network. NMG meets monthly and is supported by a small number of Working Groups. These groups focus on specific areas of development and put forward recommendations on strategic direction to NMG for approval.

Working Groups

Marketing Working Group

The Marketing Working Group is made up of representatives from each of the ATPs, One NorthEast Tourism and Hadrian's Wall Heritage Limited. It uses the wealth of experience and expertise of group members to ensure that the region achieves the greatest benefit from investment in marketing activity regionally, nationally and internationally.

The key activities of the Marketing Working Group include market research and segmentation, UK destination marketing (print, Internet and e-mail campaigns), UK thematic campaigns (including activity based and seasonal campaigns) international marketing, and group & education tourism marketing.

Business and Skills Working Group

As with Marketing, the Business and Skills Working Group is made up of representatives from each of the ATPs, One NorthEast Tourism and Hadrian's Wall Heritage Limited. However it also has representatives from Business Link North East and One NorthEast's Business and Enterprise team.

The Business and Skills Working Group's remit is to consider ways in which the Network can improve the support, advice and training available to tourism businesses. It also considers design and delivery of tourism product development and improving the quality of existing tourism product.

Desti.ne Operations Group

This Group oversees the continued development and usage of Desti.ne, the region's e-business platform. The Desti.ne Operations Group, made up of representatives from the ATPs and One NorthEast Tourism, review the current operation of Desti.ne and identify ways in which it could be improved to ensure the region stays at the forefront of developments in technology.

Research Working Group

This is a high level group that looks in detail at the Network's research programme and - even more importantly - considers the key trends that the research identifies and the implications for future network activities. It meets quarterly. The research programme overseen by the Group includes STEAM (volume and value), accommodation occupancy, market segmentation and visitor surveys, and a quarterly survey involving a regional industry panel. All of this information is also published on this website in the research library section.

Action Groups

In addition to the Working Groups there are a small number of Action Groups which focus on specific areas of day to day activity. These are:

  • Information Collection
  • Press and PR

Terms of Reference for each of the above groups can be found on the right of this page.
